ELSTAT: 3.3% Increase in Accommodation Turnover Last Year - 3.4% Decrease in Dining Services

The Greek Statistical Authority (ELSTAT) reports a 3.3% increase in accommodation turnover while dining services experienced a 3.4% decrease last year.

According to the data released today by the Hellenic Statistical Authority (ELSTAT), the turnover for accommodation businesses in Greece increased by 3.3%, reaching approximately €11.766 billion for the year, compared to €11.388 billion in 2024. This reflects a robust tourism sector that has likely benefitted from returning tourist activity post-pandemic. The continued growth in accommodation services suggests a positive trend for the hospitality industry despite fluctuations in tourist volumes.

In contrast, the dining services sector saw a decline, with a reported turnover of €10.735 billion, marking a 3.4% decrease from the previous year when it was €11.117 billion. This dip in restaurant and dining business could signal a shift in consumer spending habits, possibly influenced by economic factors or changing preferences towards dining out. It raises questions about the future viability and strategic adjustments within this sector to attract more customers.

Regionally, significant growth was noted in the turnover of accommodation services in regions such as Thessaloniki with a 6.8% increase, and Corfu and Heraklion both at 6.6%. However, areas like Santorini and Mykonos saw a downturn, with Santorini experiencing a staggering 17.2% decline. This disparity highlights the varying impacts of market conditions across different popular tourist destinations, with implications for local economies reliant on seasonal tourism.
