The Security Service of Ukraine (SSU) has successfully thwarted a potential terrorist attack in Kropyvnytskyi by detaining a man identified as a Russian Federal Security Service (FSB) asset. The suspect was planning to carry out an assassination of a defense official linked to state defense preparedness in Kirovohrad Oblast. According to reports, the individual, who is a 27-year-old mobilized serviceman that had deserted military duty, was found actively conducting reconnaissance for the attack.

Ukrainian investigators revealed that the suspect was specifically following the official with plans to detonate an improvised explosive device (IED) near a local café, indicating a high level of intent and premeditation in the plot. He was reportedly in contact with his FSB handlers, and at the time of his arrest, he had communicated his readiness to carry out the attack, putting the seriousness of the threat into perspective.
