Puchovicius counters accusations from Žukauskas: explained the phenomenon of 'round sums' from supporters of 'Nemuno Aušra'
R. Puchovičius defends against allegations related to party financing, asserting no illegal funds exist and that contributions came willingly from supporters.
R. Puchovičius has responded to allegations regarding the financing of the 'Nemuno Aušra' party, claiming that there are no illegal funds, and past investigations have not resulted in any findings of illicit contributions exceeding the legal threshold of €25,000. He highlights that various checks were conducted by law enforcement and the tax office before any donations were accounted for. This defense comes amidst scrutiny and attempts to discredit the party’s funding sources by political opponents.
The case gained attention after prosecutors concluded their review, which was informed by data previously released by the media platform 'Redakcija.' The investigation was eventually dropped, citing insufficient evidence to link any substantial illegal financial support to the party. Puchovičius insists that the financial contributions were legitimate and made at the will of the supporters, countering the narrative of wrongdoing pushed by the opposing side.
K. Žukauskas, a communications specialist and critic, has argued that the actual sums involved in the funding may be much higher than disclosed. In a provocative experiment, he contacted 'Nemuno Aušra' supporters under the guise of a party representative to discuss future donations, an act which Puchovičius found particularly sensitive as it might imply deceptive practices on part of the party and could further fuel the ongoing political controversy surrounding its financing.
