Steerprop receives a new order for propellers – this time for a launch in Spain
Finnish propeller manufacturer Steerprop has announced a new order for hybrid propeller equipment from the Spanish shipyard Gondan Shipbuilders.
Steerprop, a propeller manufacturer from Rauma, Finland, has recently highlighted its expanding operations by announcing a significant order from Spain. The company will deliver hybrid propeller equipment to Gondan Shipbuilders, who are constructing a vessel for Østensjø Rederi. Although Steerprop did not disclose the value of the order, this marks a notable milestone as it is their first collaboration with a Spanish shipyard while they have prior experience working with Østensjø Rederi.
The hybrid propeller system that Steerprop is providing offers operational flexibility, allowing for the use of a diesel engine, an electric motor, or a combination of both. This innovation underlines the industry's shift towards more environmentally friendly technologies, aligning with global trends in sustainable shipping practices. Additionally, Steerprop's previous engagements include a contract to equip a ship for a Belgian offshore company, showcasing their capability to handle significant maritime construction projects.
With most operations of the new tugboat being powered by electric motors, the integration of diesel engines as supplementary power during high-load scenarios demonstrates Steerprop's commitment to advancing hybrid technology in maritime applications. This new venture not only strengthens Steerprop's market presence but also contributes to their reputation as a key player in hybrid propulsion systems within the maritime industry.
