Complaints about the Olympic conditions – gets clear response from FIS chief

A Norwegian combined athlete criticized the Olympic conditions during a race, prompting a response from the FIS director.

Norwegian combined skier Andreas Skoglund expressed his concerns regarding the snowy conditions impacting performance during the Olympic team sprint on Thursday. He labeled the snow as extremely 'sticky', which refers to challenging landing conditions for ski jumpers. In an interview with NRK, Skoglund emphasized the need for better communication about such conditions for the sake of athlete safety, stating that the current landing conditions were among the worst he has experienced due to their stickiness.

In response to Skoglund's comments, Lasse Ottesen, the race director of the International Ski Federation (FIS), did not accept any blame for the situation. He suggested that Skoglund and others should have adapted better to the winter conditions prevalent at home in Norway, noting that while the conditions were indeed stickier than usual, athletes should expect such variability.

This incident raises questions about the communication between event organizers and athletes, especially concerning safety and performance. The ongoing debate on how weather conditions affect Olympic events highlights the need for more transparency and perhaps even adjustments in how events are conducted to ensure fair and safe competition for all athletes involved.
