Campinas continues to alert for heavy rains and risk of storms and hail this Thursday
Campinas is under a warning for intense rain, strong winds, and possible hail due to a cold front moving through the area.
Campinas is currently experiencing a significant weather alert due to a cold front affecting the region, leading to heightened chances of heavy rainfall, thunderstorms, and even hail. The local meteorological service, Cepagri from Unicamp, has indicated that rainfall could reach between 30 to 60 millimeters per hour and as much as 100 millimeters throughout the day. Winds are also expected to range from 60 to 100 km/h, raising concerns about power outages, fallen tree branches, flooding, and electrical discharges.
The alert has been issued by Brazil's National Institute of Meteorology (Inmet) and was announced by Civil Defense, following recent severe storms that have already caused significant damage within the city, including flooding, downed trees, and 21 submerged vehicles. This serves as a warning to residents to stay vigilant and prepared for potential hazards that may arise from the adverse weather conditions expected later in the day.
In terms of temperatures, the forecast for Campinas indicates a range between 21°C and 31°C. Looking ahead to Friday, conditions are expected to improve slightly with more sunshine and a decreased likelihood of rain, marking a potential reprieve from the current severe weather patterns. However, the impacts of the earlier storms are likely to linger, necessitating ongoing caution among residents.
