After the previous season's opening in the Obos league, Ranheim Top Football initiated an eight million krone project to replace the artificial turf at Extra Arena. However, just over eight months later, the situation has turned problematic, as the turf now needs to be removed again due to inconsistencies in the underlying layers. Club leader Frank Lidahl expressed that while the players are satisfied with the turf and infill, the substrate beneath is causing unevenness, impacting training and gameplay safety.

The primary issue arises from the installation of a new, environmentally friendly cushioning pad last year, which replaced the previously used solid pad. Lidahl has speculated that this change could be a critical factor contributing to the problems; however, he acknowledges that the exact cause remains uncertain. Furthermore, drainage issues exacerbating the situation have also been highlighted, affecting the overall performance of the turf.
