‘Ruling party majority’ Daejeon City and Chungnam Provincial Council suddenly turns against administrative integration after 7 months
Daejeon City Council and Chungnam Provincial Council, both predominantly from the ruling party, held an extraordinary session rejecting administrative integration with Chungcheongnam-do after previously supporting it just months earlier.
On the 19th, the Daejeon City Council and Chungnam Provincial Council, with the majority of members from the ruling People Power Party (PPP), conducted an extraordinary session where they unexpectedly opposed the administrative integration of Daejeon and Chungcheongnam-do. This sudden change of stance comes merely 7 months after passing a resolution in favor of the same administrative integration, which was advocated by PPP-affiliated local leaders. During the session, Daejeon Mayor Lee Jang-woo presented an item against the integration proposal, which was subsequently voted upon and opposed by the council members. Chungnam Provincial Council held a similar session and also opposed the integration.
