In CDMX, 90% of Citizens Evaluate Drills Positively: EF Survey
A recent survey indicates that the majority of residents in Mexico City have a positive view of seismic drills and alerts.
A survey conducted by El Financiero reveals that an overwhelming 90% of residents in Mexico City rated the seismic drills positively, with most respondents expressing confidence in these preparedness exercises. Only a small fraction, 6%, rated them negatively, while 4% had no opinion. This reflects a strong consensus among the citizens regarding the importance of these drills in a city prone to earthquakes.
The survey, which was conducted at the end of January, also assessed the efficacy of the earthquake alert system that rings on mobile phones. A significant 86% of respondents rated the mobile alerts positively, suggesting a strong acceptance and reliance on this technological tool for safety. The preference for mobile alerts was particularly notable among younger individuals, with 73% of respondents under 30 favoring them over traditional citywide alarms.
These findings underscore the proactive attitude of Mexico City's residents towards disaster preparedness and the use of technology in ensuring safety. The results also point to a demographic divide in preferences for alert systems, indicating that city officials may need to consider tailored communications to address differing attitudes among age groups. As seismic activities continue to pose a risk, these insights are crucial for shaping effective emergency response strategies in the region.
