In Klaipeda, police caught a minor carrying a drug shipment
A minor was apprehended in Klaipeda while transporting a suspected drug shipment from abroad, leading to an ongoing criminal investigation.
In November 2025, law enforcement authorities in Klaipeda launched a preliminary investigation following reports of a package containing suspected illegal substances delivered from abroad. The investigation led to the apprehension of a previously unconvicted minor studying at a local educational institution, who was found in possession of a shipment believed to contain psychoactive substances.
The minor faces charges for illegal possession of these substances without intent to distribute, as well as for drug smuggling into Lithuania. Following the apprehension, a written pledge not to leave the country was imposed as a precautionary measure while the investigation is being led by the Organised Crime and Corruption Investigation Department of the Klaipeda District Prosecutor's Office.
Penalties for illegal possession of narcotic or psychoactive substances without intent to distribute could result in community service, fines, restrictions of freedom, arrest, or imprisonment for up to two years. Additionally, greater penalties may be applied for possession with intent to distribute, highlighting the serious implications of drug-related crimes in the region and the ongoing efforts of law enforcement to combat such activities.
