Highlighting the frauds of every age
A new production of Molière's 'The Misanthrope' directed by Ioli Andreadi will be performed at the Filip Theater in Athens, celebrating 50 years of artistic contribution from the Thessalian Theater.
The production of Molière's 'The Misanthrope,' under the direction of Ioli Andreadi, will be showcased at the Filip Theater in Kypseli starting March 12, with only 16 performances scheduled. This event marks the Thessalian Theater's 50 years of consistent artistic presence and creative contribution, following a highly successful run at the 'Kostas Tsianos' venue, where it received acclaim from both audiences and critics, leading to sold-out shows. The play is recognized as the most popular yet bitter comedy by Molière, addressing themes of deception and hypocrisy relevant across generations.
Presented in a modern Greek verse adaptation by Andreadi and Aris Asproulis, based on the translation by Giagos Andreadis, this rendition features a talented cast led by Gerasimos Giannatas. Other notable performers include Stefania Karagianni, Stathis Kokkori, Asteris Krikonis, Marcela Lena, and Nadia Margariti. The performance aims to resonate with contemporary audiences, emphasizing the timeless nature of Molière's work while reflecting on societal issues of fraud and moral decay.
This collaboration, produced by the Thessalian Theater and the production company 'Meth,' represents an important cultural event in Athens, as it not only celebrates the achievements of one of Greece's leading theatrical institutions but also brings classic literature to a modern stage, encouraging new interpretations that engage with today’s societal challenges.
