A flashy but empty meeting... US dissatisfied with nuclear negotiations with Iran

A US official characterized recent talks between the US and Iran in Geneva as elaborate but ineffective, highlighting deep-seated disagreements between the two nations regarding nuclear issues.

According to a report by Axios, a senior US official described the recent indirect negotiations between the US and Iran in Geneva as 'flamboyant on the outside but lacking substance', indicating dissatisfaction with the talks that lasted around three and a half hours. This meeting followed a significant anti-government protest in Iran and was the second such encounter since discussions resumed in Muscat, Oman. The US has made demands for Iran to relinquish its nuclear enrichment activities, limit its ballistic missile range, and cease support for regional proxy forces, but Iran has maintained its stance that it will only discuss nuclear issues. Moreover, Iran has made proposals to suspend uranium enrichment during the remaining three years of President Trump's term and to transfer its stockpile of highly enriched uranium to Russia.
