The Balearic Government protects an educational counselor reported by teachers and families for insults and neglect towards students
The Balearic Government is supporting an educational counselor who has faced multiple complaints from teachers and families regarding disrespectful behavior and neglect of student needs.
The Balearic Government is currently backing an educational counselor from the IES Centre de Tecnificació Esportiva de les Illes Balears in Palma, who has been the subject of at least five internal complaints from teachers alleging repeated disrespectful behavior, insults, and neglect of duties. This support from the government persists despite the counselor having served a 10-month prison sentence for coercion after harassing a colleague at another school.
Moreover, the issues raise significant concerns, as families of at least four students have also reported similar grievances about the counselor, accusing him of neglecting students' needs and dismissing clinical reports regarding their well-being. The reports of mistreatment have prompted families to approach various levels of the Balearic Government to seek accountability and resolution, highlighting the broader implications this situation has on the educational environment and student welfare.
The Balearic Ministry of Education has indicated that there are two confidential investigations ongoing, but the lack of transparency and apparent protection of the counselor complicates efforts for reform and accountability within the educational system. This situation reflects deeper issues surrounding staff behavior in educational institutions, as well as the government's responsibility to ensure a safe and supportive learning environment for all students.
