Paraná faces a waiting list of over 20,000 for civic-military school vacancies as the state implements this model nationwide, sparking debate over its implications.
Paraná, under Governor Ratinho Jr. (PSD), has pioneered the implementation of civic-military schools in Brazil, leading to a waiting list of 20,404 individuals seeking vacancies in this educational model. Currently, there are 345 civic-military schools operating in the state, where the educational component is managed by teachers while retired military police oversee disciplinary actions. This initiative represents the largest network of its kind in the country, serving as a model for other states, including São Paulo, which began adopting this format in 100 schools in February.
