Kim Jong-un: 'We will continue to showcase military technology that will make adversaries uneasy'... Attends ceremony for the 600mm multiple rocket launchers
Kim Jong-un asserted the importance of showcasing North Korea's military capabilities during a ceremony for new 600mm rocket launchers, emphasizing deterrence and national defense.
On April 18, Kim Jong-un, the General Secretary of North Korea's Workers' Party and Chairman of the State Affairs Commission, attended a ceremony for the unveiling of the '600mm long-range multiple rocket launcher'. He stated that 'the strongest offensive power is the most reliable deterrent' and also participated in the groundbreaking ceremony for the 5th phase of the Pyongyang construction project. Kim underscored a strategic approach that aims to simultaneously enhance the economy and national defense, particularly with the upcoming 9th Congress of the Workers' Party set to take place in late February.
During the rocket launcher ceremony held at the 4.25 Cultural Center, Kim emphasized the importance of continuously demonstrating military technology that would instill fear in geopolitical adversaries. He remarked that such showcases are a critical aspect of their responsibility to maintain deterrence. Kim pointed out that self-defense is both the lifeblood and strength of the nation, declaring that the constant modernization and rapid augmentation of their defense capabilities is a steadfast goal. This rhetoric aligns with North Korea's ongoing efforts to project power amid increasing international isolation.
Additionally, Kim described the 600mm rocket launcher as a system that perfectly integrates the precision of tactical ballistic missiles with the multi-launch capabilities of rocket systems, making it one of the most powerful weapons globally. He claimed that the use of this weapon would lead to the instant dismantling of an adversary's military infrastructure and command systems. The ground-breaking ceremony for the fifth phase of the Pyongyang construction project signifies North Korea's continued investment in military and infrastructural development, reinforcing their narrative of progress amid sanctions and global criticism.
