Darwin public servant arrested for alleged $5m NDIS fraud
A public servant in Darwin has been arrested for allegedly defrauding $5 million from the National Disability Insurance Scheme.
A 47-year-old man in Darwin has been arrested following allegations of a $5 million fraud against the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS). The Australian Federal Police (AFP) conducted raids across various locations in Darwin, during which they seized documents and laptops as part of their ongoing investigation. This man, who works for the National Disability Insurance Agency (NDIA), is accused of exploiting his position to refer vulnerable individuals to an NDIS provider business that he owns, effectively misusing the funds intended for support services.
The investigation into this case has been in progress since October 2025, leading up to the recent search warrants executed at a Lee Point residence and other significant business sites in Durack and Yarrawonga. The implications of this case are severe, as it highlights potential vulnerabilities within the NDIS framework that enable fraudulent activities. The AFP reported that the manβs business has claimed over $28 million from the NDIS, raising concerns about the extent of the fraud and the impact on the disability support system.
The arrest and ongoing investigations underscore the commitment of law enforcement to addressing fraud within such critical social support programs. The man is scheduled to appear in Darwin Local Court on Thursday, where he will face the allegations against him. This case not only seeks to bring accountability to those who exploit public trust but also serves as a timely reminder of the importance of oversight in welfare programs designed to assist the most vulnerable members of society.
