Uefa imposes heavy fines and suspensions on several FC Copenhagen players

Uefa has fined FC Copenhagen €40,000 and imposed a two-match suspension on defender Gabriel Pereira after incidents in a Champions League match against FC Barcelona in January.

Uefa has acted against FC Copenhagen, issuing a €40,000 fine and suspending defender Gabriel Pereira for two games following disturbances during a Champions League match against FC Barcelona in January. The fine, which amounts to about 300,000 Danish kroner, was imposed due to objects being thrown by away fans onto the home supporters multiple times during the match, as reported by FC Copenhagen. This incident has highlighted concerns regarding fan behavior and security measures at football matches.

In addition to this sanction, FC Copenhagen announced that they would also face penalties following their home match against Napoli on January 20 for extensive use of pyrotechnics and holding onto stairways during the game. As a result of these actions, the club has been fined an additional €39,000. This brings the total fines imposed by Uefa for their involvement in these two Champions League matches to nearly 600,000 Danish kroner.

These penalties reflect Uefa's ongoing commitment to maintaining order and safety in football matches, especially at high-stakes events like the Champions League. The actions taken against FC Copenhagen serve as a warning to clubs regarding the conduct of their supporters and re-emphasize the need for stricter compliance with safety regulations, particularly concerning the use of pyrotechnics and ensuring clear access routes within stadiums.
