Fire hits recycling company and destroys nearly 6 tons of materials in Lucélia

A fire at a recycling company in Lucélia, Brazil, destroyed approximately 6 tons of recyclable materials, although no injuries were reported.

A significant fire broke out at a recycling company located in the rural area of Lucélia, São Paulo, during the early evening of Tuesday (17th), leading to the destruction of nearly six tons of recyclable materials. Fortunately, there were no reports of injuries from the incident. The local Secretary of Environment and Agriculture noted that the fire was first registered around 6 PM, with the blaze taking place in the company’s yard.

Firefighting teams from Adamantina were able to control the flames, receiving support from the municipal water truck, civil defense forces, and nearby residents. The extent of the damage included primarily plastics that were yet to be sorted. Notifications provided by the local authorities indicated a strong response, with municipal teams continuing to stay on-site throughout the night alongside the water truck to extinguish potential smoldering remnants that could lead to rekindled fires.

The municipal government stated that the area affected by the fire belongs to the municipality itself, highlighting the direct impact on local operations and potentially on the environment as a result of the lost materials. Such incidents raise concerns about waste management and fire safety in recycling facilities, underscoring the need for improved preventive measures to avoid similar occurrences in the future.
