Brazil's National Institute of Meteorology has issued a severe weather alert for Mato Grosso do Sul, forecasting intense rain, hail, and wind gusts reaching 100 km/h from Thursday to Friday.
The National Institute of Meteorology (Inmet) has declared a severe weather alert for the state of Mato Grosso do Sul in Brazil, set to take effect from Thursday (19) to Friday (20). The warning applies statewide and anticipates heavy rainfall, potential hail, and wind gusts that could escalate up to 100 km/h. The adverse weather poses risks such as power outages, tree falls, flooding, and damage to crops.
Inmet predicts rainfall rates of about 30 to 60 millimeters per hour, with a possible accumulation of up to 100 millimeters throughout the day. The alert delineates particularly high-risk areas including the Southwest, East, Central-North regions, and the southern Pantanal. These areas are expected to face the brunt of the storm conditions, necessitating precautions from local authorities and residents alike.
Several municipalities have been identified as having a heightened risk. Among these are Amambai, AnastΓ‘cio, and Campo Grande, with the latter being the state capital. Residents in these regions are advised to take necessary precautions in light of the expected severe weather, as emergency services may face challenges in responding if the forecasted conditions materialize.
