Former BRB Director Called to Provide Clarifications in Internal Audit

Dario Oswaldo Garcia Júnior, the former Finance and Control Director of BRB, is set to provide information regarding frauds connected to Banco Master during an upcoming internal audit.

Dario Oswaldo Garcia Júnior, who previously held the position of Finance and Control Director at BRB (Banco de Brasília), has been summoned to give additional information concerning the frauds associated with Banco Master as part of an internal audit scheduled for the 23rd of this month. This audit is being conducted by the law office Machado Meyer with technical support from Kroll, which implies a serious examination of the bank's financial irregularities. BRB has stated that it has already provided significant findings related to the unsuccessful operations involving Banco Master to both the Federal Police and the Central Bank.

Garcia previously testified to the Federal Police at the Federal Supreme Court (STF) at the end of January after being temporarily removed from his director role by a judicial order in November of the prior year. His dismissal by BRB occurred shortly after. The current investigative proceedings are noted to be confidential, which limits the amount of information publicly available about the ongoing inquiry and the specific allegations against Garcia.

In response to the situation, efforts were made to contact Garcia's defense, but no reply was received. His lawyer, Ricardo Borges, has previously asserted that Garcia has maintained a cooperative stance and has not refused to respond to the investigation's inquiries. The participation of a former high-ranking official in such a significant audit underscores the implications of governance and accountability within the financial sector, particularly regarding issues of fraud and regulatory compliance in banking operations in Brazil.
