On Wednesday morning, a pigeon landing on power lines triggered an explosion in a transformer of a public lighting pole in the Umuarama neighborhood, Uberlândia. Footage captured the moment of the incident, showing dramatic scenes as high-voltage cables caught fire. As a result, power supply was temporarily halted at significant local facilities including the Hemocenter and the Hospital de Clínicas of the Federal University of Uberlândia, forcing them to rely on backup generators to maintain operations.

The explosion occurred on Avenida Levino de Souza, where the fire damaged high-voltage network infrastructure. A parked vehicle was struck by burning wires, although fortunately, there were no reported injuries from the incident. The local fire department managed the situation and provided safety instructions to residents, undoubtedly a relief to the local community that experienced a scare from the explosion's immediate effects.

Power company Cemig reported that it deployed crews to the area to restore electrical service, aiming to have the power back by the end of the day.
