The Karhula Family Built a Colorful Igloo in Their Yard – Send a Picture of Your Snow Art

A family in Mikkeli, Finland, built a vibrant igloo in their yard, showcasing creativity and resilience during cold winter temperatures.

The Karhula family from Mikkeli, Finland, has recently constructed a stunning ice igloo in their yard, measuring approximately 2.5 meters in diameter. The inspiration for the igloo came to Henna Karhula during her sick leave, after watching a video on TikTok of someone building a similar structure. To achieve this, the family sourced aluminum molds from a local store and filled them with water dyed using food coloring to create a colorful effect. Within a couple of hours after viewing the video, they had already begun freezing the first batch of 60 molds on their terrace.

The construction process began with the family measuring out a circle with a diameter of about 2.5 meters in their yard. They then carefully removed the frozen ice blocks from the molds and started assembling them upright using a mixture of water and ice. This combination proved challenging due to the extremely cold temperatures, which often caused their gloves to freeze onto the ice blocks, requiring frequent struggles to detach them. The entire igloo was assembled from 325 individual pieces, making it a significant undertaking for the family.

Inside the igloo, the family added lights, creating a glowing and inviting atmosphere that showcases their hard work. This project not only highlights the creativity and spirit of the Karhula family but also encourages others to engage in winter art by inviting readers to send in pictures of their own snow or ice creations. Such activities foster community engagement and appreciation for winter's beauty and potential for artistic expression.
