Acting Mayor Urges Caution Due to Persistent Rain in Guayaquil: ‘Tonight We Will Have the Highest Tide of the Year’
Guayaquil's acting mayor, Tatiana Coronel, warns citizens about the high tides and heavy rain causing flooding and tree falls in the city.
Tatiana Coronel, the acting mayor of Guayaquil, provided an update on the continuous rainfall that has been occurring since the morning of February 18. The heavy precipitation, accompanied by thunderstorms, has resulted in significant water accumulation in various areas throughout the city. As a response, Interagua, the water service concessionaire, has been deployed to address the flooding incidents. Reports from Segura EP indicated that at least 52 locations experienced issues due to the standing water, with one area notably affected by a fallen tree.
In light of the weather conditions, Coronel emphasized the need for caution, particularly as the city anticipates the highest tide of the year, which is expected to exceed 5 meters. She remarked that the scenario is expected to remain challenging throughout Wednesday morning and evening, reinforcing the need for continued monitoring. The authorities are closely monitoring the situation through the C5GYE command center and are ready to respond to any emergencies as they arise.
The local government's focus remains on ensuring the safety of Guayaquil's residents as they navigate through these adverse weather conditions. With the call for precautionary measures and rapid responses to emerging situations, the acting mayor aims to manage the impact of the rains and high tides effectively, ensuring that help reaches the affected areas promptly.
