Yle: Virus Rampages in Finland - Where It Will Strike Next

Finland's Central Ostrobothnia has reported the highest incidence of hantavirus cases in the country, significantly exceeding the national average due to an increase in the bank vole population.

In Central Ostrobothnia, Finland, the prevalence of hantavirus, primarily spread by the bank vole, is alarming, with reports indicating that the area's incidence of the virus is over nine times greater than the national average. As of early this year, 23 cases have been confirmed in the region, following 47 cases reported throughout the previous year. This rise in cases is linked to a burgeoning population of bank voles, with health authorities warning that the peak may not yet have been reached.
