Masseuse charged with multiple sexual offences
A Northumberland masseuse has been charged with 55 sexual offences, including attempted rape and multiple counts of sexual assault, following a lengthy police investigation.
Terence McBrien, a 72-year-old masseuse from the Alnwick area in Northumberland, has been charged with a total of 55 sexual offences, which include one count of attempted rape, seven counts of sexual assault by penetration, 34 counts of sexual assault by touching, and 13 counts of voyeurism. These charges are linked to allegations involving 14 women and represent serious breaches of trust in a profession that generally demands a high standard of professionalism and discretion.
The police's investigation, described as complex and lengthy, has culminated in these substantial charges, reflecting both the severity and the volume of the alleged misconduct. Detective Sergeant Michael Rainbow highlighted the potential impact of such a multitude of charges on public safety, emphasizing the need for vigilance and awareness in the community, especially given the nature of the offences involved.
McBrien's arraignment is scheduled for March 19 at Berwick Magistrates' Court, where he will answer to these serious allegations. He is currently on bail, and the case is likely to draw attention not only due to the nature of the charges but also because of the societal implications of such professional misconduct in health and personal care services. The situation raises questions about the safeguards in place to protect vulnerable clients in such settings.
