From Pemex to CFE: These are the millionaire pensions that the government pays; a retiree receives 1 million pesos per month

The Mexican federal government has revealed the exorbitant pensions paid to certain government agencies like Pemex and the Federal Electricity Commission, highlighting that some retirees receive as much as 1 million pesos monthly.

The Mexican federal government recently disclosed details about the exorbitant pensions issued by agencies such as Pemex and the Federal Electricity Commission (CFE), with the findings coming from the Anti-Corruption and Good Government Secretariat. According to Raquel Buenrostro, a significant number of retirees from the Luz y Fuerza del Centro agency, a defunct power company, are receiving vast sums in pensions, which has raised concerns about the sustainability and fairness of such financial commitments.

Out of approximately 14,000 former workers from Luz y Fuerza del Centro, it has been revealed that over 9,457, or nearly 70%, are receiving pensions ranging between 100,000 to over 1 million pesos monthly, placing a tremendous financial burden on the government. This situation is alarming for stakeholders who question the distribution of taxpayer money, particularly in a country that struggles with economic challenges and demands for financial accountability from public agencies.

The report garners attention as it reflects broader issues within the Mexican government concerning not only the management of public funds but also the ethical considerations in awarding such generous benefits. The implications of these findings may lead to discussions about pension reform and greater scrutiny of how public funds are allocated, pushing the government to take action towards transparency and budget management.
