The police had begun their investigation after being alerted to the discovery of a recording device that was found unattended in the meeting room following a closed session of the council. The meeting in June of last year lasted for three hours in an open session, during which all three candidates for the Prosecutor General's position were heard. Following this session, a brief intermission took place, after which the council proceeded to vote in closed session on the candidates. During this time, police escorted a media representative who had attended the open session to a room where the closed voting was to take place. This heightened the atmosphere of scrutiny surrounding the proceedings, as one key point was the integrity of the election process for the Prosecutor General's office.

Ultimately, the council did not approve any of the candidates during this meeting, leading to a decision to announce a new competition for the position. This occurred because none of the candidates received the necessary votes to advance.
