Hungary halts diesel supplies to Ukraine until Druzhba oil pipeline resumes work, Hungarian foreign minister says

Hungary has suspended diesel supplies to Ukraine until the Druzhba oil pipeline is back in operation, according to Hungarian Foreign Minister Péter Szijjártó.

Hungarian Foreign Minister Péter Szijjártó announced that Hungary will halt diesel fuel supplies to Ukraine, contingent on the resumption of operations at the Druzhba oil pipeline. This announcement followed a government meeting where concerns over oil transit issues were raised.

Szijjártó indicated that the decision to halt supplies was made in light of continued delays in resuming the oil flow through the Druzhba pipeline, attributing the halt to political reasons attributed to Ukraine. He emphasized that Hungary has sufficient strategic oil reserves that can last for 96 days, alleviating any immediate concerns about fuel shortages within Hungary.

This decision represents not only a critical move in Hungary's energy policy but also highlights the geopolitical tensions surrounding energy supplies in the region, particularly in light of Ukraine's ongoing conflict. The suspension of diesel supplies could further strain relations between Ukraine and Hungary, underscoring the complexity of energy dependency in Eastern Europe.
