Marathon meeting ended with distrust towards several members of the taekwondo federation

A 12-hour extraordinary meeting of the Danish Taekwondo Federation concluded with votes of no confidence against several board members.

A lengthy 12-hour extraordinary assembly of the Danish Taekwondo Federation (DTAF) recently took place in Odense, resulting in significant changes in the federation's leadership. At the meeting, held on a Sunday, board members faced votes of no confidence, with only board member Therese Reffing, alternate member Thomas Mรธller, and chairperson Mireille Enggaard Kempf managing to maintain their positions amidst the turmoil. Kempf confirmed the outcome and noted that only a narrow majority approved her continuation as chairperson among the 67 clubs present, highlighting a divided sentiment among the federation's members.

Key figures at the meeting included vice-chairman David Coupar, who, despite some support, chose to resign, signaling potential internal strife within the federation. Another board member, Murad Ahmed, experienced a vote of no confidence but was re-elected when the new board was formed. The federation has not yet established a new board, and this will be addressed in a follow-up meeting scheduled for February 22, as confirmed by re-elected chairperson Kempf.

Moving forward, Kempf emphasized the need for stability within the organization during this transitional phase. She expressed a commitment to focus on fostering unity and addressing the issues that led to the unrest, indicating a desire to protect the integrity of the sport. With discussions planned to organize and reconstitute the board, the upcoming days are crucial for the future direction of Danish taekwondo amid growing challenges within its governing body.
