Polish consumers can both spend and save
Recent consumer sentiment data from Poland suggests a cautious optimism among consumers regarding financial situations, despite still prevalent skepticism.
Recent statistics from GUS (Central Statistical Office of Poland) regarding consumer sentiment reveal that while the optimism in consumer confidence has not reached record levels, there has been a slight improvement over the previous month. In February, the consumer confidence index registered -9.1 points, a modest increase from -9.6 points in January. This figure marks the highest since mid-2022 and the second-highest since the pandemic began. However, despite the improvement, a significant portion of consumers remain skeptical about their financial outlook, with only 18.5% believing their financial situation has improved over the last year as opposed to 26.5% who reported a deterioration, revealing a continuing trend of cautious spending and saving behavior among Poles.
