Aftonbladet Launches Radio Channel: 'Historic Step'
Aftonbladet has been granted a national radio license, marking its entry into Sweden's audio market.
Aftonbladet, Sweden's largest newspaper, has made a significant move into the broadcasting sector by being awarded a national radio license, announced by the Swedish Media Authority. This development is described as a historic leap for the publication, as it aims to expand its reach and offer journalistic content to a broader audience throughout the country. Lotta Folcker, publisher at Aftonbladet, expressed excitement over this new opportunity, stating that the venture represents one of the company's largest investments in recent years aimed at enhancing everyday journalism.
The national radio license will take effect on August 1, coinciding with the intended start of Aftonbladet's broadcasts. The transition involves the newspaper taking over the radio license previously held by NRJ, which is one of only three such licenses available in Sweden. Ola Vigström, a lawyer representing the legal aspects of the transition, emphasized the necessity for NRJ to relinquish its license to allow for Aftonbladet's new initiative, signaling a strategic decision to utilize radio frequencies more effectively in the Swedish audio landscape.
