The family of Jean-Michel Nicolier is demanding the extradition of his killer from Serbia
The family of Jean-Michel Nicolier, a Croatian war veteran killed in 1991, has issued an ultimatum to Serbia for the extradition of the suspected killer and compensation.
The family of Jean-Michel Nicolier, a Croatian war veteran who was murdered in the aftermath of the fall of Vukovar, has formally requested the Republic of Serbia to extradite the individual suspected of his murder, Spasoja Petković, also known as Štuka. This ultimatum was communicated through the Serbian embassy in Paris and signed by the legal representative of the Nicolier family, Ghislain Dubois. In addition to the extradition request, the family is seeking €200,000 in compensation for the loss of their loved one.
Jean-Michel Nicolier's mother, Lyliane Fournier, and brother, Paul, have been vocal in their demands to the Serbian authorities, emphasizing the need for justice in their case after years of searching for the truth regarding his death. The family had recently laid Jean-Michel to rest, further affirming their resolve to hold those responsible accountable for his murder. This legal action comes amidst a complex backdrop of post-war reconciliation and justice-related issues in the Balkans.
Arnaud Bilen, a representative for the family based in Zagreb and a legal expert with over two decades of commitment to uncovering the truth about Nicolier's case, confirmed the legitimacy of the request to the Serbian embassy. The news of this diplomatic approach was initially reported by Jutarnji list, demonstrating the ongoing struggle that families of war victims face in seeking both justice and recognition years after the conflicts have ended.
