Government and Comuns agree on rental aid for incomes up to 36,000 euros and a voucher for menstrual products and condoms
The Government of Catalonia and the Comuns party have reached an agreement to increase rental assistance and introduce a voucher for menstrual products and condoms for young people.
The Government of Catalonia, led by Salvador Illa, has partnered with the Comuns party to enhance rental assistance programs and address sexual health needs. Under the new agreement, the income threshold to qualify for rental aid will be raised from 25,000 to 36,272 euros, with the initiative set to allocate an additional 107 million euros over the next two years. The aim is to extend assistance to up to 50,000 more households, thereby improving housing accessibility for lower-income families.
In addition to the rental assistance increase, the agreement includes provisions for a new 25-euro voucher designated for menstrual products and condoms, aimed specifically at young individuals aged between 12 and 25 years. This initiative represents an effort to promote sexual health and wellness among youth, ensuring that financial constraints do not hinder access to essential health products. The introduction of this voucher aligns with broader public health campaigns advocating for improved reproductive health education and support services.
This political collaboration between the Govern and the Comuns signifies a progressive step towards social welfare enhancements in Catalonia, demonstrating a shared commitment to addressing both housing and health inequalities. The proposed measures not only respond directly to pressing issues faced by residents but also reflect an understanding of the needs of contemporary youth, providing them with resources that support both their living conditions and personal health.
