Bulgarian tourism has accelerated, and the summer season has been extended
Bulgaria experiences a notable increase in both domestic and international tourism, indicating a recovery in the market.
Bulgaria has reported a notable resurgence in its tourism sector, highlighted by a 2.9% rise in domestic tourists and a significant 9.8% increase in international visitors in 2025, according to a government report. Overall overnight stays exceeded 28.8 million, marking a 4.2% growth, while revenues from inbound tourism reached nearly 3.9 billion euros for the January-November 2025 period, showing a 6.4% increase compared to the previous year.
The data also reveals a broader trend in the tourism season, with rising interest in travel beyond the peak summer months. Increases in visitor numbers were observed in April, May, October, and November, indicating a gradual extension of the tourist season in Bulgaria. This shift could suggest that travelers are looking for off-peak experiences, potentially benefiting the local economy and tourism stakeholders in a more sustainable manner.
As Bulgaria regains popularity, especially among German tourists, the country is positioned to capitalize on its geographical and cultural appeal, enhancing its standing as a prominent destination in Europe. By fostering a longer tourism season, Bulgaria might not only increase its overall visitor numbers but also contribute to economic stability in this sector, showcasing an optimistic outlook for years to come.
