Rwanda: Tour Du Rwanda 2026 Budget Rises to Nearly Rwf2bn
The budget for the upcoming Tour du Rwanda has increased by 50 percent, reaching nearly Rwf 2 billion, as confirmed by cycling officials.
The Rwanda Cycling Federation (FERWACY) has announced a budget increase for the upcoming 18th edition of the Tour du Rwanda, setting the overall cost at approximately Rwf 2 billion, marking a substantial 50 percent rise from previous years. This increase was confirmed by FERWACY's first vice president, Valentin Bigango, as the race is set to kick off in just four days. The 50 percent hike in budget will help cover various logistical and promotional expenses, reflecting the organizers' commitment to enhancing the event's profile.
A total of 18 teams are expected to compete in this year's Tour du Rwanda, despite the withdrawal of one team, UAE, which has since been replaced. The competition includes three Rwandan teams: Team Rwanda, Benediction Cycling Club, and May Stars. These local teams aim to showcase Rwanda's growing status in the cycling world while competing against international teams, thus further elevating the nation's profile in the sports community.
In an effort to broaden the event's audience, all stages of the Tour du Rwanda will be broadcast live, which indicates a strategic move by the organizers to utilize digital and television platforms to gain wider viewership. This approach not only aims to attract more spectators locally but also seeks to engage international audiences, strengthening Rwanda's standing in global cycling events and could lead to increased investments in sports tourism.
