A dog unexpectedly appeared on the Olympic track – the skier was shocked: 'This is not normal'
During a women's team sprint qualification at the Val di Fiemme ski stadium, a dog resembling a wolf startled skiers as it made its way onto the course.
At the Val di Fiemme Lago di Teseron ski stadium, an unexpected incident occurred during the women's team sprint qualifying rounds when a dog, which looked slightly like a wolf, broke loose and ran onto the track. This surprising event happened just as some of the last skiers were finishing their opening legs. The Argentine skier Nahiara Diaz Gonzalez expressed her confusion about the dog's presence, noting that the animal appeared very happy at the finish line, jokingly suggesting it might have wanted to compete in the finals.
The presence of the dog caused a sense of alarm among the competitors, particularly for Croatian skier Tena Hadzic, who reported feeling frightened as she skied past the animal. She commented on the potential dangers of encountering a dog on the slope and speculated that the dog may have been startled by the skiers' poles. The skiers agreed that it was unusual for such an event to occur during a competitive skiing event, raising questions about how the dog managed to breach the course's safety barriers.
Finnish skier Jasmi Joensuu took a more light-hearted approach to the incident, remarking on how tame the dog appeared. However, the overall consensus among the competitors was that a dog appearing on an Olympic track is not something that should happen, highlighting the need for stricter safety measures to prevent similar occurrences in the future.
