Fresh drone attack reported in Cheboksary, home to Russian defence plant Progress

A new drone attack has struck Cheboksary, where the Russian defense plant VNIIR-Progress is located, as reported by local authorities.

Cheboksary, the capital of the Chuvash Republic in Russia, recently experienced a significant drone attack targeting the local defense installation, VNIIR-Progress. Oleg Nikolayev, the head of the Chuvash Republic, confirmed the incident through his Telegram channel, stating that unmanned aerial vehicles attacked various areas within the city. Fortunately, he reported that there were no casualties and no damage to permanent structures, allowing the emergency services to respond without further escalation of damage.

Nikolayev insisted that despite the drone strikes, the local population should remain calm. His comments came in response to a series of drone assaults that rattled the residents, with Astra, a Russian media outlet, relaying accounts of explosions and pictures showing smoke rising from affected sites. The reiteration of another drone attack reinforced the seriousness of the incidents, prompting officials to monitor the situation closely and assure the public’s safety.

The attack on Cheboksary raises concerns about the vulnerability of key military installations amid ongoing military tensions. VNIIR-Progress is known for its role in supplying the Russian armed forces, making it a significant target. This incident underlines the continuing risks and instabilities in the region, particularly as local residents grapple with the realities of modern warfare and heightened security awareness.
