Spaniards trust a bishop more than an influencer or politician

A recent study indicates that Spaniards have a higher level of trust in bishops than in influencers and politicians.

A new study conducted by the BBVA Foundation reveals that professionals such as scientists and doctors command the highest levels of trust among Spaniards, with nearly 80% of the population rating their confidence in the medical and scientific communities at an average of 8.4 and 8.3, respectively, on a scale of 0 to 10. The research, which consisted of two telephone surveys carried out in November 2025 with over 4,000 adults, provides a clear map of professional credibility in Spain.

At the top of the trust ladder are medical professionals and scientists, followed by engineers, teachers, and university professors. Conversely, influencers, who are expected to lead and shape opinions, score drastically lower with an average trust rating of only 2.0. Politicians are slightly better off, only managing a score of 2.6. Interestingly, religious figures, including bishops, seem to hold a place of relative trust among the populace, suggesting that credentials and ethical behavior heavily influence public perception of various professions.

This disparity in trust levels raises important questions about the societal role of influencers and politicians and their impact on public opinion. While influencers are often lauded for their ability to engage audiences and shape trends, this study suggests that the public may seek more reliable, ethically grounded voices in crucial areas such as health and education. In contrast, the low scores for influencers and politicians could indicate a need for greater accountability and integrity in their practices to rebuild trust in these sectors.
