President of Grande Rio confirms Virginia's remaining as battery queen
Hélio Ribeiro de Oliveira confirmed that Virginia will continue as the battery queen of Grande Rio for 2027 despite experiencing issues during the parade.
Hélio Ribeiro de Oliveira, the president of Grande Rio samba school, has announced that influencer Virginia will retain her position as the battery queen for the 2027 carnival. Virginia made her debut at the Marquês de Sapucaí during a parade on Wednesday night, where she was noted for both her performance and challenges. Despite these, Ribeiro expressed confidence in Virginia's renewal since discussions the previous week.
During the parade, Virginia faced difficulties with her costume, notably with a 12 kg accessory that she requested to be removed due to discomfort. Additionally, a part of her costume began to come loose while she was performing, which forced her to adjust her movements carefully on the avenue. These wardrobe challenges affected the flow of her performance but did not detract from her presence as the battery queen at one of Brazil's most prestigious carnival events.
The lead-up to her performance saw some chaos as Virginia was mobbed by fans and spectators upon her arrival at the concentration area. Accompanied by bodyguards, she had a tumultuous entry into the main sector just after midnight, showing both the excitement and the pressures faced by public figures during such high-stakes events. This year, Grande Rio aims to celebrate its cultural heritage and continue to innovate its presentations, and Virginia will play a significant role in that vision for the future.
