Herman Haluschenko, the former Energy Minister of Ukraine, has been placed under custody for 60 days on charges of money laundering and participating in a criminal organization. The prosecution argued for his detention due to concerns that he might contact witnesses and influence their testimonies. Additionally, the fear existed that Haluschenko could evade the investigation out of concern for the potential severity of his sentence. Although the court complied with the request for detention, it somewhat softened another request by imposing a bail of 200 million hryvnias (approximately 4.75 million euros) on him.

Haluschenko was apprehended on the border while attempting to leave Ukraine, and prior accusations of money laundering against him had already surfaced. Reports indicate that members of a criminal group registered a fund in 2021 in the British overseas territory of Anguilla, aiming to attract an estimated $100 million in investments. Among the so-called 'investors' was Haluschenko's family, whose participation was concealed behind a chain of companies. Subsequently, the funds began to be transferred to Switzerland, raising further suspicions about the financial dealings involved.
