Climate crisis response creates 'jobs'... Increasing by 3.6% annually

A recent study reveals that as jobs in traditional manufacturing decline, new 'future jobs' in climate response industries like renewable energy are projected to increase annually by 3.6%.

A recent study conducted by a research team at the National Green Technology Institute predicts that the workforce in climate change response sectors in South Korea is expected to grow significantly over the next decade. The report, published in the Korean Journal of Climate Change, estimates that the total number of workers related to climate change response technologies will increase from approximately 283,000 in 2022 to about 402,000 by 2032, marking a 41.9% increase over ten years. This translates to an average annual growth rate of 3.6%. The study categorizes climate change response technologies into 22 sectors, which are further divided into 'mitigation,' focusing on reducing greenhouse gases, and 'adaptation,' aimed at adapting to climate change. Notably, there is a larger projected increase in the mitigation sector, particularly in 'power efficiency' which is expected to see an annual growth rate of 8.5%.
