Eastern DRC: the EU announces humanitarian aid of more than 81 million euros for victims of the conflict
The EU has pledged 81.2 million euros in humanitarian aid for victims of the ongoing conflict in Eastern Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).
During her visit to Kinshasa on February 17, European Commissioner for Equality and Crisis Management Hadja Lahbib announced the EU's commitment of 81.2 million euros in emergency humanitarian aid aimed at aiding victims of the conflict in North and South Kivu regions of the Democratic Republic of Congo. This announcement comes as violence escalates in the area, leading to significant population displacement and a humanitarian crisis.
The conflict in Eastern DRC has resulted in massive displacements, pushing people to flee their homes in search of safety, while critical resources such as food, water, and shelter are running dangerously low. Women and children are particularly vulnerable in this context, facing heightened risks as the humanitarian situation deteriorates. The EU's assistance is aimed at mitigating these dire conditions and providing essential support to those affected.
This substantial humanitarian package underscores the EU's continued commitment to addressing crises in Africa and supporting local communities caught in conflict. Its timing reflects the urgency of the situation in the eastern DRC, highlighting international awareness and concern regarding human rights and humanitarian issues in the region.
