Witnesses reported seeing individuals climbing up to about 15 feet, which raised alarms about potential accidents and injuries.

The situation escalated around 5 p.m. when Surrey police officers were called in to manage the unruly crowd. Staff Sgt. Lindsey Houghton stated that police successfully negotiated with two climbers who were partway up the arch, bringing them down safely before any harm could occur. Following these incidents and citing poor weather conditions, the British Columbia government opted to close the bridge entirely.
