Labor shortage outweighs legal insecurity among complaints in the lobbying sector, says research
A recent survey highlights that a significant 80% of participants in Brazil's lobbying sector identify a lack of qualified labor as their primary challenge, overshadowing concerns about legal insecurity.
A survey conducted by the Brazilian Association of Institutional Relations and Governmental Affairs (ABRIG) reveals that the foremost challenge faced by Brazil's lobbying sector is the shortage of qualified labor, with 80% of respondents highlighting this issue. This emphasizes a critical gap in skilled professionals within an industry that relies heavily on expertise and knowledge. Other notable challenges include constant changes in regulations (40% of respondents), legal insecurity (20%), and a lack of alignment between public and private sectors (20%). These findings suggest that labor market dynamics are currently influencing the lobbying industry more than legal and regulatory frameworks.
Furthermore, the survey gathered insights from a range of participants, including 68 companies, 30 associations, and 216 professionals, presenting a comprehensive view of the sector's challenges. Notably, the survey also indicates a divided opinion on the regulation of lobbying activities in Brazil, with 40% of respondents supporting regulation either fully or with reservations, while an equal percentage opposes it or expresses caution. This split could point to wider debate within Brazil regarding how best to manage lobbying practices in order to maintain transparency and integrity in governance.
Among the surveyed professionals, a significant proportion possess advanced degrees, with 42% holding specializations, 29% having completed a master's degree, and others holding MBAs or doctorates. This educational level reflects the industry's reliance on well-educated individuals to navigate complex regulatory environments. The data suggests a need for improved educational frameworks and training programs that can better equip the workforce to meet the demands of the lobbying sector as it evolves.
