FREE movies in the Zócalo of Mexico City: from Guillermo del Toro's 'Frankenstein' to 'Güeros' and more; complete schedule

The Zócalo of Mexico City will host free outdoor movie screenings from February 16 to 22 as part of a cultural initiative featuring various contemporary Mexican films.

From February 16 to 22, the Zócalo in Mexico City will be transformed into an outdoor cinema as part of the 'Jardín del Buen Amor,' a cultural initiative featuring a large space with natural grass and flowers. The highlight of this event will be the free screening of Guillermo del Toro's 'Frankenstein,' a film that received nine Oscar nominations. This event aims to provide an inclusive and engaging way for the public to appreciate national cinema in a festive atmosphere.

The lineup, curated by PROCINECDMX, consists of seven contemporary Mexican films that will be screened every evening at 6:30 PM, with the exception of Wednesday, February 18, when a film will start earlier at 6 PM. The selected films include a diverse range of genres and themes, showcasing stories about endangered indigenous languages, pandemic-related comedies, queer narratives, and nostalgic black-and-white road movies. This rich variety is designed to captivate audiences and highlight the depth and breadth of Mexican storytelling.

By providing free access to these cinematic experiences, the event not only promotes film appreciation but also encourages cultural engagement among citizens and visitors alike. This initiative strengthens community bonds and offers a unique experience under the stars as audiences gather to celebrate Mexican cinema together, making it a significant cultural event in the heart of Mexico City.
