Fire threat eases but central Victorian blaze still out of control

A bushfire in central Victoria near Trawool remains uncontrolled, though improving weather conditions have aided firefighters.

Firefighters are still battling a bushfire near Trawool, located south of Seymour in central Victoria, which poses a significant threat to local properties. Although cooler weather has provided some relief, the fire, which has already consumed approximately 145 hectares, is not yet under control, prompting authorities to maintain a warning for nearby residents. So far, no homes have been lost, but around 30 homes remained at risk as a precaution.

The fire ignited on Tuesday afternoon and quickly spread several kilometers into the Tallarook State Forest. Incident Controller Jamie Hansen reported that while the fire's situation has improved, particularly with favorable overnight weather conditions, it is crucial for residents to heed warnings and avoid returning to affected areas until it can be declared safe. The fire has now been downgraded to a 'Watch and Act' level as of late Tuesday evening, indicating that while conditions are less critical, the situation remains fluid.

Authorities continue to monitor the blaze closely, and firefighters remain on high alert as they work to contain the fire's active edges. This incident highlights the ongoing challenges faced by emergency services in managing bushfire risks, especially as climate conditions fluctuate. Residents are urged to stay informed through official channels and be prepared for potential evacuations if the situation worsens.
