Police was drunk at work - caught for another crime in the parking lot
A police officer was caught driving under the influence and working while intoxicated, resulting in a fine and prior incidents of similar behavior being noted.
In a troubling incident reported by Satakunnan Kansa, a police officer employed in administrative duties worked while intoxicated last summer. Colleagues observed her erratic behavior, leading to the discovery that she had consumed alcohol during her shift, which involved reviewing crime reports. After her workday was interrupted, the officer attempted to drive her vehicle from the police station's parking lot but was quickly apprehended by a patrol unit.
Following the incident, the Satakunta district court sentenced the officer in early February for drunk driving and violating her official duties, imposing a fine equivalent to approximately 400 euros. This case was not an isolated event, as it was noted that there was a previous instance involving another officer at the same police station. In November 2024, that officer received a 30-day suspended prison sentence for driving under the influence, with the court commenting on his repeated offenses of similar nature.
This revelation raises significant concerns regarding the professional conduct and accountability within law enforcement agencies, especially given the expectations for police officers to uphold the law. The repeated incidents point to systemic issues that may need to be addressed to restore public trust and ensure safety within the community and the police force itself.
