A man has been arrested in Michoacán for sexually abusing his niece over a period of 14 years, according to state authorities.

The Attorney General's Office of the State of Michoacán has arrested Alfredo 'N', who is accused of sexually abusing his niece for 14 years in the municipality of Apatzingán. The abuse reportedly began in 2011 when the victim was just 9 years old. The victim disclosed that during this long period, the accused threatened her with harming her younger sister or cousins if she told anyone about the abuse, which allowed the misconduct to continue unchecked for many years.

The investigation was initiated after the victim came forward to the authorities, leading to the compilation of evidence and the establishment of a formal complaint against the suspect. Alfredo 'N' was reportedly employed as a guard in a local penitentiary at the time of the alleged offenses. The case has raised significant concerns regarding child protection and the effectiveness of safeguarding measures in the region, given the pervasive nature of the abuse over such an extended timeframe.

The arrest highlights the ongoing issues of sexual abuse and violence against minors in Mexico, prompting calls for stronger protective laws and intervention strategies to prevent and combat such heinous acts. Community awareness and timely reporting of abuse are essential for safeguarding potential victims and ensuring that appropriate legal actions can be taken against perpetrators in cases like this one.
