The group, which initially comprised seven individuals, had set off from Ilorin on Monday and had to stop for the night in Ankpa, Kogi State, due to rising security concerns along their route.

As they resumed their journey early Tuesday morning, their vehicle was intercepted by armed men in Kula village, about 20 minutes from Makurdi. According to accounts from relatives of the victims, while one passenger managed to escape, the remaining six, which included three men and three women, were taken by the kidnappers. The situation underscores the ongoing security challenges faced in Nigeria, particularly related to banditry and kidnapping for ransom, as the abductors have reportedly demanded a ransom of N100 million for the safe return of the victims.

The rise in kidnappings alongside major roads in Nigeria has led to increased fears among travelers and highlights the need for enhanced security measures in the region.
