Quebec police bust sophisticated forged documents operation
Quebec provincial police have arrested two men involved in a sophisticated counterfeit ID and credit card operation, following a raid that uncovered numerous forged documents.
Quebec provincial police have reported the arrest of two men aged 34 and 42 connected to a sophisticated counterfeiting scheme involving forged identification and credit cards. These arrests were made shortly after a raid conducted in March 2025 on a clandestine document production lab situated on Chabanel Street in Montreal, where law enforcement seized a significant quantity of counterfeit documents along with the necessary equipment to produce such items.
The operation led by the police's economic crimes division has unveiled the extent of this illegal enterprise, with authorities finding over 1,000 forged documents. These included a variety of false IDs and financial cards such as driver's licenses, Canadian residency cards, Quebec health insurance cards, and social insurance cards. The quality of these forged documents has been stressed as being particularly high, posing challenges for detection unless specialized equipment is deployed, indicating the sophistication of the scam.
The legal proceedings against the accused are set to take place virtually in a courthouse in Joliette, Quebec. This bust not only highlights the ongoing issue of identity theft and counterfeiting in the region but also raises concerns regarding the potential use of such forged documents in broader criminal activities, underscoring a need for increased vigilance and resources among law enforcement to tackle these sophisticated criminal operations.
